Contact cleaner - made by God for computers!

Recently, a friend of mine was having problems reinstalling windows. Either the installation process would stall half way through, or the data on his pc would corrupt, destroying the windows partition after a few days.

When his computer was going, it was unstable and needed constant reboots. This would occur, even after completely disassembling the entire machine and cleaning all contacts using the eraser method.

The solution? A can of contact cleaner!

After removing the motherboard, I sprayed all the slots, including PCI, ISA, RAM, AGP, SATA, and even removed the cpu to spray the cpu socket (well it wasn't my computer Razz). Contact cleaner is the best for removing heat transfer compound. Always allow enough time and ventilation to make sure the contact cleaner completely evapourates when applied to slots! Try to mop up the runoff with a hanky or something non-fiberous.

The result - his computer has not needed a reinstall since! No lock-ups, no random reboots, no data corruption. Do yourself a favour and grab a can! Follow the instructions and test on something similar first as it can affect some plastics.

I still recommend the eraser method for cleaning the contacts on add-on cards like pci/agp/ram/etc and the like!

...And sniffing the contact cleaner improves the graphics of your VGA card !! At least it makes things look better... I recommend the eraser for kiddies. Assuming they don't choke on it Razz
