The following is a guide to displaying uploaded images in the PC Shopper forum.

First of all, select a image hosting site. These sites can be easily found by searching for “image hosting” into Google or your preferred search engine. I recommend http://www.imageshack.us/ as it is easy to use and doesn’t require registration. However with registration, it is much easier to track your images. Please follow the instructions at ImageShack if you wish to register. We will use ImageShack for image hosting in this guide.

NB: Any number inside brackets, for example: (3), means the item in question will be marked by that number on the demonstration images.

Open the following banner into a new browser window or tab, or the link above to go straight to ImageShack

At the site, you will be presented the following screen:

To begin uploading, press the 'Browse' button (1).

A 'File Upload' box will appear. Use the 'Look in' drop-down box (2) to find the specific location of the image you want to download. For this demo, I am using an image that is on my desktop 'image_to_upload_flyer1..jpg' (3). Once you have selected your image, press 'Open' (4).

After you have opened the image, the 'File Upload' box will disappear. The field next to the 'Browse' button (5) will have the path to the image you selected filled out. To upload, press the 'Host it!' button (6).

Your image will now be uploading. You can check this by looking at the 'Host it!' button (6). During the uploading process, it will aptly say 'Uploading…'

After uploading is finished, you will be presented with this screen:

As you can see, there is a number of fields containing URL’s to the image you just uploaded. Next to each URL field is a description of the URL’s particular usage. The most relevant links for posting images in the forum are 'Thumbnail for forums' (7) and 'Direct link to image' (8)

To include these in your post, highlight the link in the relevant box, copy it (Ctrl+C) then paste into your post (Ctrl+V)

'Thumbnail for forums' (7) Is useful when you only want to supply a thumbnail (reduced replica) of your image into the post. Clicking on this thumbnail will direct the browser to the original picture at ImageShack, for example:

'Direct link to image' (8) Is used when you want the actual image displayed in the post.

Important Note: When posting 'Direct link to image' pictures, you must include [img] and [/img] tags before and after the URL respectively. Do not include a space between the tag and the URL either. Note the [img] and [/img] tags use square brackets!

Without the tags, your link will be displayed like this:

http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/275/imagetouploadflyer11to.jpg

Spaces between the tag and URL will cause this:

[img] http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/275/imagetouploadflyer11to.jpg [/img]

With proper tag usage, you will have a big shiney image:

HAPPY POSTING!
